SHMD 3.2 The Spirit of Red & Blue = Smashing Success

Well another SHMD has finished and the students, faculty, volunteers, and the entire South Glens Falls Community has something to be VERY proud of. Tears were shed, and countless hugs were passed around that showed the undying compassion and spirit behind why our community comes together once a year for an amazing truly life changing experience.

This year over $260,000 was raised and we should all feel proud to be  South High Bulldogs and part of such a wonderful thing. We have now officially raised more than $2 million in 32 years, helping more than 125 worthy recipients.

Big Ballerrrrs…

We’ve now congratulated all but the top three unbelieveable high money earners, and the numbers are outstanding! Our top 87 earners raised a combine $72,000!!!!! Great Job Guys!!!

We’ve also recognized several key volunteers who have done amazing things for the dance, behind the scenes, for years. We couldn’t pull off this dance without each of you, and it was a privelege to honor you each with plaques.

We also have to give a huge shout-out the 100 dancers who received 4-year dancer pins for their commitment to dance their entire high school career. They’re the heart that set a great example for our Freshman and up-and-coming dancers.

We’re getting ready now to break for dinner to be sure our dancers have the sustenance and stamina to make it through the rest of the night.

Time flies…

When you’re having fun!! The dancers are now getting ready for Disney Classics costumes, and had a lot of fun with our fifth graders. They’ve eaten a good lunch and are ready to attck the remainder of the afternoon…anticipating that HUGE finale they’ve planned.

Things are going remarkably smoothly, and we appreciate all the cooperation from our supportive public. The halls are full, as is the gym. Full of energy and excitement. Should be a very amazing night…..

Got a little International

A huge thank you and Great Job goes out to all the amazing Marathon dancers who participated in the Spanish Dance demonstration in the gym.

Videos will be posted as soon as I track down my tech guru….

Dawn Breaks…

The sun has risen on another fine Marathon morning and our dancers are fed … moving their happy feet across the gym floor. Our first costume change, “What if…” went very well and the ideas presented were quite creative…and perplexing!

The dancers are now busy gettin down, awaiting the much anticipated lunch break as well as the arrival of our amazing fifth grade dancers.

More videos will be posted soon, as they seem to be a huge hit…I’m guessing we’ve got a few fans of the creative interpretation of the life of Jody Sheldon…..?

Night Night….

The dancers have left the dance floor for their big break of the night. There are quite a few non-sleepers who will be enjoying snacks in the cafeteria, or a movie in the gym.

As the night wears on, and the alumni go longer and longer without sleep, expect the videos to get more and more interesting….

Late night show

We are currently uploading videos from Neon Power Hour and Simon Says with Dr Black.

Power Hour was an absolutely crazy rave, and Simon Says took much longer than normal…people must be getting really good!

Our Seniors have met to plan what is sure to be an amazing Finale. We’ve practiced it, with the largest group of dancers we’ve ever had, and I’m sure you’re going to love it.

We’ve got an hour and a half before our sleep break…

Snack time…

The dancers have broken for their 10:30 snack and to change into their Neon Power Hour gear. The first costume change, Old School, went very well and the costume pictures can be seen in the media gallery.

In the mean time, we are building up a great line-up of guest bloggers and video clips. We are also currently trying to commendere Jody Sheldon’s beautiful cardboard cutout for your viewing pleasure, as we all know the real thing is very hard to keep in one place!!

Underway

The dance has officially begun!! We had a few tearful moments as recipients, past and present, shared inspiring words of wisdom with the swarm of dancers. The spirit was high and the excitement could be measured in ear shattering decibles. The mass of pink dancers shirts have been replaced with “Old School” costumes.
